A solar panel is a device which is used to convert energy contained within the suns rays into electricity. Solar panels are a great way to generate electricity on a small scale. Solar panels are commonly named solar cells or photovoltaic cells. A photovoltaic module is an interconnected collection of cells combined into one item. Solar modules allow for a wide range of varying sizes of solar panel products to be manufactured.
When a number of solar or photovoltaic modules are installed together, this is commonly referred to as a solar array, or photovoltaic array.

Compact Flourescent Bulbs
A compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) is a fluorescent light bulb that has been compressed into the size of a standard-issue incandescent light bulb. Modern CFLs typically last at least six times as long and use at most a quarter of the power of an equivalent incandescent bulb.
According to Arthur Rosenfeld, a physicist and member of the California Energy Commission, "If every home in the United States replaced just one incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), the energy saved would prevent greenhouse-gas emissions equivalent to taking more than 1 million cars off the road." Programmable Thermostats
Programmable thermostats directly or indirectly control one or more sources of heating and cooling to maintain a desired temperature. To perform this function a thermostat must have a sensing element and a transducer. The sensing element measures changes in the temperature and produces a desired effect on the transducer. Insulation & Radiant Barrier
A radiant barrier is a reflective insulation type system that offers a permanent way to reduce energy costs. Most people are familiar with traditional insulating materials such as fiberglass, cellulose, Styrofoam, and rock wool. These products use their ability to absorb or resist convective and conductive heat transfer to insulate (R-value). Radiant barriers are ‘technically’ not an insulation material, due to the fact they are only a thin sheet of reinforced aluminum foil, however with an air space of 3/4” or more, radiant barriers have a theoretical R-value of 53.
Low-Flow Showerheads
A low flow shower head is a water saving shower head typically rated at 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm) or less. There are two types of low flow shower heads. The most common is the aerating shower head which mixes air with the water. The other is a non-aerating shower head which does not introduce air into the water stream. Shower usage accounts for almost 25% of American water usage by individuals. Low flow shower heads provide a quality shower with good water pressure while reducing water consumption.
Tankless water heaters, also called “flash,” “demand,” or “instantaneous” water heaters, only heat water when a hot water valve is being used. Conventional water heaters store a tank of hot water at all times “on standby” so that users receive hot water as soon as they turn a hot water valve on. Keeping this water heated when the valves are not in use requires energy and heat that is lost through the walls of the storage tank.
